The Shopify Sale-Prep Checklist: 6 Bulk Edits to Run Before Your Next Promotion

June 20, 2026 · 6 min read

A good sale is mostly preparation. The day-of scramble — fixing prices, re-merchandising collections, tagging the sale items — is where mistakes happen, and mistakes during a promotion are expensive and public. Here is a six-step checklist you can run in an afternoon, where every change is previewed before it ships and reversible after.

1. Set your sale prices (with strike-throughs)

Discount the products in your promotion and show the original price struck through. Bulk edit prices by percentage or to an absolute value, scoped to a collection or tag — copying the current price into compare-at first so the strike-through is correct. Review the before/after for every variant before anything goes live.

2. Schedule the start and end

Do not flip prices manually at midnight. Schedule the sale to apply at your start time and a second project to clear the discounts at the end time — both timezone-aware, both with one-click undo if anything is off.

3. Tag the sale items

A consistent “sale” tag powers sale collections, badges, and filtering. Bulk add the tag to everything in the promotion (and remove it cleanly when the sale ends) without touching each product’s other tags.

4. Re-merchandise your collections

Put your hero and highest-stock products where shoppers see them first. Reorder collections by inventory, pin specific products to the top, or move the whole sale tag to the top of every collection it appears in — in one pass.

5. Close the SEO gaps

Traffic spikes during sales, so the meta you are missing costs more now. Generate SEO titles and descriptions for products missing them, and add alt text to images that lack it, before the promotion drives extra search and image traffic.

6. Export a snapshot first

Before a big batch of changes, grab a record of where things stood. Export your products to CSV (Lasso also writes a pre-apply backup automatically for large jobs), so you have a clean reference if you need to compare after the dust settles.

The throughline

Every step here stages in a project with a visual diff and applies only when you confirm — with one-click undo on the whole batch. That is what makes pre-sale prep something you can do confidently and quickly, instead of a high-wire act. Run the checklist, schedule it, and enjoy the sale.
